NEEDED: a few good volunteers for WaterFest
The
Greater Oklahoma Disabled Sports Association will be hosting the 2nd annual
Water Fest at the BoatHouse on Saturday, August 14, 8:00- 5:00. This was a
very successful event last year and the GODSA folks are really excited about
the facility and location.
Activities will include skiing, kayaking, sailing and a cookout. The skiing
with the shallow water launch of people in "sit-skis", and close pursuit by
jet-skis is thrilling to watch. WE will provide the boats and personnel for
an introduction to sailing. I think we can handle it with 10 volunteers: 2
for a safety boat - probably the C-Skiff, 4-6 for a pram, American, and a
keelboat, and a couple on shore. This will be a lot of fun. The program was
well run last year, with attendees rotating through the 3 venues. GODSA has
good sponsorship and lunch is provided for volunteers. Contact Paul Reynolds
for information.
Commodore's Cup Aug. 21
The second of three Commodore's Cup regattas will be August 21st before the club meeting that night. Racing will start at 2pm on the mark. Three races will follow with any centerboard boat or multihull welcome. Bring water, sunscreen, and a good attitude because sometimes that light air can be frustrating! The safety boat will have an ice chest of water to provide to racers between races since it is hard to carry water on the small boats. Vernon can always use more help on the committee or safety boat; let him know if you're available.
CAST for Kids set for Sept. 25
The Thunderbird Sailing Club, LTEF, Cast for Kids Foundation, Thunderbird State Park US. BOR and many fishermen and other volunteers will be on hand to make sure these special kids have a terrific day of fishing at Lake Thunderbird. Homeland Stores will once again provide the food for the breakfast and luncheon and many local donors will contribute gifts, money and other items for this event. Roger Elliott and Ed Shoemaker have offered their help again this year to head up the food prep for the luncheon and they will be in need of help.
We could use some volunteers to help set up on Saturday morning and clean up in the afternoon, also to take kids fishing on the Wellcraft or Sprint….Hopefully the pontoon boat will be available if someone could take some kids fishing on it? A note to Les Cummings if you can help would be much appreciated.
