Mission & Vision

The mission of Thunderbird Sailing Club (TSC) is to teach and share sailing and water activities with the Norman/Oklahoma City surrounding communities. We value camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the joy of being on the water.

Our goal is to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where people of all ages and skill levels can learn, grow, and enjoy the sport of sailing. Through education, events, and community outreach, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of sailing while promoting safety and fun on the water.

Club History

Founded in 1969 by local sailors, the Thunderbird Sailing Club (TSC) has a rich history of promoting water safety and the joy of sailing in the Norman/Oklahoma City surrounding communities.

Located at Lake Thunderbird State Park, the club sponsors monthly potluck meetings with a program, small-boat sailing in the warmer months, plus summer keelboat racing, and other community events throughout the year.

One of the highlights of the racing season is the Hiram Douglas Memorial Regatta, an annual event that has been celebrated since 1983.

TSC is built on a strong foundation of volunteerism and camaraderie. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned racer, you’ll find a supportive community ready with helping hands and good advice.
The club boasts 7 US Sailing certified instructors offering high-quality sailing education for the greater Norman community.

Our members have competed in regional and national regattas, and many of our members have explored sailing destinations around the world.

Facilities

The Boathouse

Thunderbird Sailing Club has the privilege and honor to manage The BoatHouse at Lake Thunderbird that sits on publicly owned land in the heart of Lake Thunderbird State Park.

Thanks to the generosity of the State of Oklahoma, The BoatHouse serves as a hub for a variety of TSC water activities and community events.

The BoatHouse at Lake Thunderbird has a dock and storage for small boats, including RS Teras, RS Zests, Lasers, FJ’s, and American Daysailers.

The facility also has interior and exterior event space, restrooms, showers, a classroom/community space, and parking.
We host group events including sailing classes, regattas, and club socials on the BoatHouse property.

Our community boathouse is located on the northwest side of Lake Thunderbird, within Lake Thunderbird State Park. The club operates both out of the boathouse and Little River Marina, providing easy access to the water and facilities for sailing enthusiasts.
