May 2026 at Thunderbird Sailing Club: Racing, Learning, and Community on the Water
Spring has officially arrived at the Thunderbird Sailing Club, and May 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest and most exciting months of the season. From moonlight sails and regattas to youth sailing lessons and themed potlucks, club members are coming together to celebrate everything that makes life on the lake special.
A Community Built Around the Water
In this month’s Commodore’s Message, LTEF President Jim LaDue reflected on what truly makes the Lake Thunderbird Educational Foundation and Thunderbird Sailing Club unique. Beyond racing and sailing instruction, the club continues to create opportunities for connection, recreation, and unforgettable evenings at the marina.
One recent highlight was the Dock Party and Full Moon Sail — an evening filled with music, laughter, family, and sailing under the stars. Special thanks were extended to Jim Eller for organizing the event, Beau Montgomery for bringing additional gathering space with the pontoon boat, and Gus Gonzalez for providing music and lively crew spirit aboard Shamrock.
As LaDue noted, outdoor recreation offers more than entertainment — it provides a chance to recharge, reconnect, and step away from the demands of daily life.

Supporting the Club
Club leadership also reminds members that annual dues help fund races, educational programs, marina activities, and club operations throughout the year. New members are always welcome, and the club encourages current sailors to invite friends and family who may be interested in joining the sailing community.

From friendly dock gatherings to competitive regattas and youth education programs, Thunderbird Sailing Club continues to create meaningful experiences both on and off the lake. Whether you’re an experienced racer, a new sailor, or simply someone who enjoys the camaraderie of waterfront life, there’s something for everyone this season.
