TSC Frequently Asked Questions

What is Thunderbird Sailing Club?

We’re a volunteer-run sailing club based at Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma. We offer sailing classes, community events, racing, and a welcoming place for sailors of all ages and skill levels.

Do I need my own boat to join?

Nope! Many members don’t own a boat. You can sail with other members, participate in classes, or join our Shared Boat Program for access to club keelboats.

I’ve never sailed before — can I still join?

Yes! We welcome beginners. Our certified instructors teach both youth and adult sailing classes, so you can start with no experience.

What kinds of events do you host?

We hold monthly meetings and potlucks, seasonal parties, races, outreach events like OKASA Waterfest and C.A.S.T. for Kids, and even group sailing trips (“Sailcations”).

How do I become a member?

Simply visit our Membership page and choose the type that fits you best. You can join online in just a few minutes.

Can I rent a boat from the club?

Boats aren’t available for public rental, but members can join the Shared Boat Program for access to our community keelboats once qualified.

Where is the club located?

We’re based at the Lake Thunderbird BoatHouse:

1312 Indian Point Road
Norman, OK 73026
